Right from the beginning, we knew we wanted to bring an intimate American tavern to the newly reimagined Cavalier Hotel. We envisioned a refuge where patrons and guests could relax and unwind by the fire, sipping a handcrafted cocktail or sharing a meal with family and friends.

Michael began his culinary career at the age of 16 as a dishwasher at Coastal Grill, where he discovered his passion for the kitchen while training under Chef Jerry and Moe. From there, his dedication to the craft quickly grew, leading him to work as a chef at several respected establishments in the area, including Zoe’s Steak & Seafood, Bay Creek Country Club, The Baker’s Wife Bistro, and Lunasea.
During his time at Zoe’s, Michael developed a strong foundation in fine dining, gaining experience with sommelier-driven menus and high-end wine dinner programming. He later attended the Culinary Institute of Virginia while continuing to refine his skills in professional kitchens.
In 2022, Michael joined the Cavalier Hotel, where he served as a supervisor at Becca. When the opportunity arose, he transitioned to the Hunt Room, where he is proud to contribute to and build upon the restaurant’s already strong reputation.
Michael chose to pursue a career as a chef after recognizing, at a young age, the confidence his mentors had in his abilities—a belief that continues to drive his passion and growth in the culinary field.
